Abstract

The development of economic cooperation in the Pacific and its broader implications in terms of world trade and investment trends, political alignments, cultural exchange and geographical ties, has motivated a reaction of interest on the part of a group of Latin American countries. This participation effort has focused on the possibilities of joining the process of commercial expansion and economic activity, but also on aspects such as the diversification of traditional political relations, security and resources. This article analyzes both the economic and political dimensions of a growing Latin American interaction with the Pacific and the prospects for further institutionalization of such a relationship.
