Abstract

Since September 11, 1973, the Chilean military regime has attracted international attention. How have these international factors affected the process of redemocratization in Chile? This question is part of the complex problem of the relationship between foreign policies to promote democracy and the development of democratic political regimes. The study of the Chilean case in the period from the political crisis of 1983 to the plebiscite and the transition period that began in 1988 allows the analysis of the interaction between external, transnational and domestic factors and the evaluation of their influence on the process of transformation of the political regime in this country, allowing the generation of hypotheses on the relationship between democracy promotion policies and domestic processes under conditions of transnationalization.
