Intersectionalities in Geographical Research: Dialogues between Black Geographies and Feminist Geographies in the Interpretation of Black Women’s Realities

Authors

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the importance of geography researchers incorporating the debate of intersectionalities in their analyses. The geographic science, built under precepts of heteronormativity, neutrality, and universality, has silenced the multiplicity of voices that make up society. Intersectionalities make it possible to contemplate the diversity of subjects that compose the geographic space, and in this text, we highlight the spatialities of black women, which must be understood from the intersection of different identity cleavages. Dialogues between the known black geographies and feminist geographies are established, aiming to point a way to intersectional theorizations. Since this is a theoretical text, the main methodological procedure adopted was a survey and bibliographic research that discusses the themes addressed.
